EXT. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN – NIGHT

A picture of a man, a woman and a boy on the beach near a house, hangs in the little boat’s mast and it folds back and forth with the howling wind and the rain that falls from the stormy sky. The boat moves constantly by the raging waves from the sea and JOHN (46) holds the harpoon string tightly with both hands. Ahead of the boat, in the middle of the swell, and at the other end of the rope, the harpoon is attached to the fin of the Bahamut, a huge fish struggling to free itself.

JOHN

You are mine, Bahamut!

A huge flash of lightning pierces the cloudy sky, illuminating the ominous outline of the dark clouds, the mighty thunder follows. John involuntarily crouches down at the rumbling and releases the string for a moment, but manages to pick it up quickly.

JOHN

(euphorically) I’m never going to let you go, you hear me!

Just as John says this, the photograph on the mast comes loose and falls to the floor of the boat. Without letting go of the string with his right hand, John reaches out to grab the photograph with his left hand. He almost manages to reach it, however, the boat is hit by a large wave, rolls over and John falls into the water. Underwater, John swims back to the surface and succeeds.

He breathes in relief near the boat and looks at the photograph on the surface of the water. But the rope tightens and attaches itself to John’s arm, propelling him forward at high speed, following the movement of the Bahamut as it tries to pull away. John struggles to breathe, hitting the waves full force with his body as he tries to free himself from the string. The speed of the Bahamut intensifies without the weight of the boat holding it back, John struggles to release the string and finally manages to do so, stopping his movement.

Shivering in the middle of the sea, John lifts his head above the water to breathe, stands still looking up at the cloudy sky and closes his eyes to rest. The swell calms down momentarily.

ALLEN

Dad!

John’s eyes widen in surprise. He looks around, but can see only the sea and the sky.

ALLEN

Dad! Help!

JOHN

¿Allen?

ALLEN

Dad! Please!

John looks around again, turns back and this time manages to see arms raised in the distance among the waves.

JOHN

Allen!

John swims hard in the direction of the raised arms, because of the swell he can barely keep his eyes on them.

ALLEN

Dad!

A new wave lifts him up and drags him backwards, John gets under the water and swims the rest of the way. However, when he arrives, he finds no one.

JOHN

Allen!

John looks around, he’s alone in the middle of the ocean.

JOHN

(Interrupted) Allen! Can you hear m…

A new wave hits John, covering him completely. Surfacing again, John spits out the salt water he has swallowed.

JOHN

Allen! Allen!

John looks around but finds no one, so he decides to go into the water. Underwater, John looks for Allen, he moves back and forth, but the bottom of the ocean is completely dark and he can’t see anything, he returns to the surface and breathes heavily.

JOHN

Allen!

The swell continues to move and a new flash of lightning streaks across the sky, John goes up and down across the waves and soon a new clap of thunder resounds.

SOPHIA

John!

John turns backwards as he is lifted by a new wave, as he rises he catches a glimpse of a woman’s back in the water, however, as he descends he loses sight of the woman.

SOPHIA

John! Help me!

JOHN

Sophia! Damn it!

John swims toward the woman and faces the intensifying swell. He manages to see her again as he enters the valley formed between the two waves that separate them. He continues swimming down the and faces the next crest of the wave, plunging into the water. As he emerges, he reaches the woman’s position, but she is not there.

JOHN

Sophia! Where are you! God dammit!

John closes his eyes and stands still in the middle of the restless ocean, trying to stay afloat and catch his breath.

JOHN

(whispering) This is not happening.

Slowly, John’s breathing calms down, he opens his eyes to the flash of a new lightning, in front of him, at a distance of 20 meters, he can see the boat floating on the surface of the water.

EXT. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN – DAY

John’s hand manages to cling to the edge of the boat, he uses all his strength to climb aboard and falls inside exhausted. Lying on the floor of the boat, John bursts out laughing, but his laughter quickly turns to tears. The boat moves slower and slower until it becomes completely still, with the first rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds. John gets up from the floor and wipes the tears from his eyes. He turns back and stares at the horizon, takes a deep breath.

Determined, John picks up the oars from the floor of the boat, untying them and returning them to their position on the sides of the boat. However, he is distracted to see the Bahamut’s fin returning to the surface not far from John’s position, the fish still has the harpoon stuck in the fin. In a hurry, John looks down to grab the oars.

ALLEN

Dad!

SOPHIA

John!

John looks up surprised, he sees a WOMAN (64) standing in front, looking at him. In surprise, John falls backwards onto the floor of the boat.

WOMAN

Hi, John.
